Crabbing and Fishing Details
Nehalem Bay is known for Chinook salmon (July-November), Coho salmon (August-October), Steelhead (November-April, best in February/March), and Cutthroat Trout (year-round, best mid-July to mid-September). Crabbing is available year-round, with the meatiest crabs found September through February. A shellfish license is required for those 12 and older, with a limit of 12 Dungeness crabs per person per day (males only). Slack water is the best time to crab. Crabs should be cooked for 15 minutes (1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lb crabs) or 20 minutes (3 lb crabs).
